Back behind bars

Investigating officer Esmerald Bailey testified that Rodrigues had breached her bail conditions by sending SMSes to baby Jordan's parents, Neil Wilson and Natasha Norton on July 18,19 and 23. The sms Neil received led Neil to believe she was an old friend (Kate) and suggested that they meet for coffee at Canal Walk. Apparently when Neil Wilson arrived there he received an SMS: saying "F***. You are more stupid than we thought. Compliments of Villagers Rugby team. You have messed with the wrong girl. We told Dina to get rid of you but she didn't listen ... Start praying Dumb F***. U can go home now."

The investigating officer Esmeralda Bailey also told the court that Dinas' fingerprint was found on the waybill which accompanied the fake parcel which the robbers pretended to deliver to the Nortons home. Bailey also testified that a Nokia cellphone confiscated from Dina was used to call her co-accused Mfazwe.

Bailey said that Rodrigues had phone Mfazwe on June the 15th which was the day baby Jordan was murdered. On July the 26th the same cellphone which belongs to Dina was used to phone Mfazwe, but he was in custody at the time and his phone was in Baileys' possession and on voicemail.

Bailey said that earlier confessions made by 3 of the men implcating Dina as the "white woman" who hired them to kill baby Jordan was unavailable at the time when Dina was granted bail. Dinas attorney Van der Berg told Bailey that Mfazwe has said that he did not know Dina and had not seem her until the day they shared the dock.

Van der Berg said the 4 men would challenge their confessions and plead Not Guilty in the High Court.

On 23rd September 2005 Dina Rodrigues' bail was revoked and she was put back behind bars.

Neil Wilson one of main witnesses against Dina July 2005

During Dinas' bail hearing it emerged that Neil is one of the main witnesses in the States' case against Dina Rodrigues.

He is thought to be going to tesityf that Dina had told him that she was responsible for organising the murder of baby Jordan and that there was no evidence to connect her to the crime.

State advocate also told her that Neil would testify that she had slept over at his place after they were questioned by police, but that he had later broken up with her telephonically because of her part in Jordans murder. He also said that Neil claimed to be scared of her and was disgusted after she had told him about her "solving the problem"

Several call had also been made to the Nortons' home a few days prior to the murder and these were traced to Dina Rodrigues' office phone.

The uncle of the murdered baby would also testify that he received a call from a woman with a high-pitched voiced on the day before Jordan was killed. The woman said that a package would be delivered to the Nortons home the following day. This call was traced to Rodrigues' place of work.

Dina gets R20,000 bail

Neil Wilson had a two month relationship with baby Jordans mother and it was during this time that baby Jordan was conceived. By the time baby Jordans mother realised she was pregnant she was in a new relationship and believed the baby to have been conceived by the man she was in a relationship with at the time.

Wynberg magistrate Hasiefa Mohamed said she was concerned about a number of unanswered questions relating to the States' evidence against Dina.

She said it was unclear why Neil agreed to delete incriminating messages from Dina to his cellphone, why police could find no trace of such messages and why it took him 4 days to tell the police of Dinas' murder confession to him. The magistrate also advised the police to take a closer look at the role played by Jordans biological father Neil Wilson.

The magistrate said Dina had come across as a confident and calm wintess and she had also recieved exceptional references from her school and former employers.

She was released on R20,000 bail but was instructed to have no contact with State witnesses which included former boyfriend Neil Wilson and friend Arendene Fourie.

2nd day of bail hearing

During the 2nd day of Dina Rodrigues' bailing hearing in the Wynberg magistrates court, state advocate Johan Ryneveld said to Dina that she had told boyfriend Neil Wilson that the baby is dead and that she paid R10,000 to sort out the problem.

Neil Wilsons had said in a statement that Dina has smsed him after the murder of Jordan asking him to contact her urgently.

Wilson had said she was upset when she confronted him and wanted to know what he was going to do about the problem. He asked her what she meant but she did not elaborate further and when Ryneveld asked her to answer Dina said "no comment"

Ryneveld asked Rodrigues about a courier waybill which was signed by her and found at the Norton home. The prosecuter said a handwriting expert had analysed the waybill and concluded it was the same as the other waybills made out by her at her familys' business.

He also said that an employee of Speed Freight Services would testify that the waybill in question was one of the waybills he had given to Dina. The employee of the courier company had given her 2 extra waybills for delivery notes on June 1. At the time he had only 2 extra and these invoices were invoice numbers ending with 48 and 49. He said the waybill found on the package at the scene of the crime and which was used to gain entrance into the Nortons; house ended in 49.

Dina Rodrigues declined to comment on any of the allegations.

Wynberg Magistrates court

Dina Rodrigues told the Wynberg magistrates court that she would plead not guilty to the murder of Jordan Leigh Norton.

She told the court that she loved Neil Wilson but that he was more serious about their relationship than she was. Neil Wilson was the father of little baby Jordan.

On advice from her legal representatives she declined to answer questions put to her by State advocate John Ryneveld on whether she had ever contact Jordan Leighs' mother, Natasha what her reaction to the news of baby Jordans death was and how it affected her relationship with Neil Wilson.

During cross-examination she said she had slept over at Neil Wilsons home after being questioned by the murder of the baby.

The state alleged that Dina had hired 4 men to carry out the contract killing of her boyfriends daughter.

The arrest of Dina Rodrigues.

On the 17th June 2005 just two days after the brutal murder of little Jordan Leigh Norton 22 yr old Dina Rodrigues was arrested by detectives who believed the murder to be a contract killing.

The day of the murder

On the morning of 15th June 2005 Natasha Norton her kissed sleeping daughter goodbye before she left for work not knowing that it would be the last time she saw her 6 months old daughter alive.

Little baby Jordan was at home being looked after by her nanny and her uncle Dylan 18 was also at home.

A man knocked at the door before 10am saying that he had a parcel to deliver. The nanny called Dylan to sign for the parcel and then the man pulled out a knife 3 others appeared and forced their way into the Norton household.
They tied up the two adults, but Jordan was taken away into another room. Both the nanny and uncle repeatedly pleaded for Jordan to be brought to them, but their plea was ignored.

The men left the two in the room and soon afterwards the house became quiet. Dylan managed to free himself and ran into the kitchen and pressed a panic button. He then went looking for Jordan.

In his room he saw Jordans legs sticking out from under a pillow. He picked up a pillow and found Jordan bleeding from a stab wound in her neck.

He picked her up and said she still gave a little kick. The nanny took Jordan from him and ran outside looking for help.

A neighbour took Jordan to a doctors consulting rooms nearby where she was declared dead.

The robbers took a locked safe, clothing and shoes but left expensive DVD, cameras, tv and cellphone.

The Nortons had received a call the previous evening telling them to expect delivery of a parcel which led the police to believe that the invasion and robbery was well planned. The pretext of delivering a parcel was how the 4 men gained entrance to the house. The parcel was subsequently found to contain waste paper.
